Jessica and Casey Wed at Long View Center!

Jessica and Casey knew they wanted me to officiate their wedding at Long View Center after attending Jessica's cousin Anna's wedding to her husband Scott at the Angus Barn last year. In fact, Jessica was one of Anna's bridesmaids as Anna would be for Jessica. When Marty and I arrived on their beautiful wedding day of November 16, 2013, the wedding party and families were out in Moore's Park getting some wonderful shots. Casey and Jessica opted for a "first look" ahead of the ceremony which allows time to do a lot of the wedding photography before the ceremony.
The couple with Jessica's family.
Pretty in red!! Anna is the third one from the right with hand on hip. It was great to see her and Scott again. He is in medical school in Richmond VA.  He said it is just as grueling as he expected!
The guys are really ready to do this!
So sweet!
They had a very large wedding party. The groomsmen ranged all the way from the altar down to the side aisle. And the bridesmaids the same on the other side. Casey, his best man Avery, and I are waiting for the bride on the floor level then we will all step to the top for the ceremony. Symbolic of taking their marriage to a higher level.
Jessica is stunningly beautiful and even more so as a bride! (Sorry my photos are blurry!)
Long View Center is the most elegant wedding venue in downtown Raleigh. Unfortunately the building is being sold and will no longer be open to the public for weddings after June 2014.
Scott McKenzie, Music Director at Unity of the Triangle, was our pianist along with a guitarist whose name I did not get.
Jessica's Uncle and Godfather, Michael, read the words of Judith Bielicki in "Friendship."
Then I got to tell the story of how Casey and Jessica met, fell in love, and got to this momentous day!
Our photographer, Sarah Der, comes in for some close-ups of the ring exchange.
Didn't get a photo of the pronouncement or the kiss--the first or second one. But one of the groomsmen dashed over to the bell tower to ring the bell!
We are all listening to the bell ring here before I presented the couple!
Jessica and Casey, I know you are enjoying wedding bliss now! Thank you for giving me the honor of officiating for you. You were great to work with and I am convinced that you are a great match!

A Gorgeous Wedding at Long View Center for Lindsay and Kyle!

It is a small world! On June 22, 2013, I officiated the wedding of Lindsay and Kyle at the lovely Long View Center leased by Unity Church of the Triangle--my church. The day before, at a retirement party of a former co-worker, I discovered that Lindsay's mother and I worked at the same agency many years ago but not at the same time. You just never know who will cross paths with you and I think it was meant to be that I officiate Ann's daughter's wedding. Lindsay and Kyle met with me last August and they loved the opportunity to write the ceremony of their dreams with my guidance and tons of material I gave them to go through. Their photographer was Elizabeth Myers with Sweet Life Studios, another great person to work with again! Scott McKenzie, Music Director at Unity Church of the Triangle and classical pianist and conductor, provided the beautiful music. Mel Day with Dogwood Tree Florals provided the pretty flowers  and Make-up For Your Day had all the women looking gorgeous.
Lindsay's father, Rolland, helped her float down the aisle!
Everyone is standing in honor of the bride's entrance and as her father places her hand into Kyle's hand.
Tia Jones with Erin McLean Events was their wedding planner and so I knew I did not have to worry about the processional and the little behind the scenes details. It also meant I did not have to train a "friend" how to do the processional.  Thanks for a great job, Tia!
Almost 5 years ago, Kyle and Lindsay met at a party in Durham. Kyle lived in Virginia at the time and was in the area visiting with his friends here for the 4th of July weekend. The more they talked, the more they found they had in common but since he lived so far away, neither of them expected anything to come of it.
But, they could not stop thinking of each other and the next time Kyle came to Raleigh he called her and they saw each other again. From that point on they were a couple and eventually Kyle moved back to NC again. He proposed in December of 2011 via an elaborate scheme to elude Lindsay's suspicions of getting the ring. It worked and of course she was thrilled to say yes!
They each told me in confidence what they loved about the other and got to hear what they told me for the first time during the ceremony. A sweet moment.
Sorry this photo is blurry but it is the only one I have of the kiss!
 And off they go, married!
Scott and I have known each other for several years, ever since he became the Music Director and Choir Director for my church, Unity Church of the Triangle. I sing in the choir so I see him at least twice a week. He is an accomplished pianist (and maestro) and for this wedding he had the arrangement by Jonathan Cain of the Bridal March--my very favorite music for the bride's entrance. It is simply magical and evokes such emotion. I had never heard it played live! And, Scott had never heard me do a wedding. After the ceremony I went over and asked him what he thought. He told me he had heard hundreds of wedding ceremonies and that I was the "queen" of wedding ceremonies. He said he laughed and cried through the whole ceremony!
Lindsay and Kyle, thank you for choosing me to be your officiant. I truly enjoyed officiating and working with you to put it all together for your special day. I wish you all the happiness and love in the universe!

The Wedding Bells Really Ring at Yidi and Matt's Wedding at Long View Center!

Loving tenderness is what comes to mind when I think of Matt and Yidi! It was such a pleasure to work with them to create their ceremony and I was so honored to officiate their beautiful wedding at Unity Church of the Triangle at Long View Center on Saturday, June 16, 2012. Yidi was born in China but relocated to the US and was working in a university hospital laboratory when she noticed this handsome young surgeon always brought his lab samples to her. Matt confessed that he was really impressed with Yidi and how intelligent and organized she is. She also had photos of her family and her beloved dogs on her desk so he knew how important family was for her which is equally important to him. Their wedding ceremony reflected that too. Their first "date" was at a dog park between their residences in April of 2010 where their dogs got to know each other and Yidi and Matt had long talks about everything and anything. They realized they shared so many core values that they soon became a couple and eventually decided to marry. They met with me in January to plan the ceremony which was a traditional American wedding ceremony in structure (Matt's family is Roman Catholic) but also wanted to include some words in Mandarin with English translations because not all the guests understood English. So we got to work. Their rehearsal was the day before and Matt and Yidi came dressed in traditional Chinese clothing with a lot of red which is good luck. It was no surprise that the rehearsal dinner was at a Chinese restaurant in Chapel Hill! The wedding day dawned and to our surprise, the City of Raleigh decided to repave Person Street that day, of all days. We delayed the start of the wedding 15 minutes because of the backed up traffic and finding parking but everyone eventually got there.
Matt and his father, Bill, who also served as his best man, were ensconced in the Green Room behind the altar from where we entered. Diane McDaniels, the Facilities Manager for Long View came in to check on them.
Sarah Hobgood is a wonderful pianist. She had to play extra long because of the delay but no problem! Her page-turner is a mentor of Matt or Yidi's, I can't remember which, and arranged for Sarah to play for the wedding.
Finally the guests were in place and it was time to start. Matt and I, followed by his non-escorting groomsmen took our places on the altar. I wonder what those groomsmen are whispering about!
First in was Marcella, Matt's grandmother, escorted by Nate, one of our groomsmen.
Mary Alice, Matt's mother, is escorted in by Bill and then he stepped up next to Matt.
Mother of the Bride, Xerong, was escorted in by Michael then he took his place with the groomsmen.
After our lovely bridesmaids entered, it was time for our beautiful bride, Yidi. Since her father is no longer living, she was escorted in by her nephew, Xiaomeng, as a representative of her family. Inthe background you can see Matt's Aunt, Sister Margaret, who served as our wedding director.
Our photographer, Charlotte Claypoole, is up in the choir loft getting some great photos of Yidi's entrance.
The sanctuary at Long View Center is the most elegant and beautiful setting for a wedding in Raleigh. I love doing weddings here but it has been since 2009 because it was closed for a while. Now Unity Church of the Triangle leases the space and offers it to the public for weddings. I am an active member of this church and I'm here every Sunday and love to sing in our amazing choir. The Church is located at 118 S. Person St., corner of Hargett and Person, just across the street from Moore's Square. Come check us out!
After welcoming everyone, my words were translated into Mandarin by Xixi, niece of the bride.
Then Matt's sister, Susanna, read two Catholic readings that were particularly significant because they were given to Matt and Susanna's great-great-grandmother, Margaret, by their great-great-grandfather, Thomas, in 1873, the year of their marriage. Very special!
Yidi's mother, Xerong, then spoke to the guests in Mandarin which was then translated into English by Xixe. She was so gracious and thanked everyone for being there for the occasion and some sweet words about Yidi and Matt including these: "As Matt and Yidi’s relationship has progressed I’ve had the opportunity to spend a significant amount of time with Matt.  I can’t say we’ve had many long detailed conversations (Matt really needs to work on his Mandarin), but I can say that through his actions, his smiles, and his laughter I have come to know Matt fairly well."
At this point, Bill, Mary Alice and Xerong were asked to stand while I told them how much their love and support has meant to their children. Then I asked them to take them into their families as son and daughter.
Everyone, including Yidi and Matt, got many good laughs from their story and the humor we included.

Matt and Yidi prepared their vows to each other and read them to each other during the ceremony. They also had them printed in their wedding program.
The exchange of rings......then the pronouncement (no photo of that this time!).....
Aaaahhh the kiss! Nate stepped over to the bell tower and rang the bell!
 They were so happy!

And now they are officially a family!
Yidi and Matt, congratulations! I wish you all the best in your move to Pennsylvania for your residency. I know you will be so happy together. When you need a baby blessing/christening ceremony, do call on me!
