The Power of Drawing

Drawing is a powerful tool. Not only can you create beautiful images that have life within the brush strokes, but you can also portray your thoughts and explore your mind through your own unique concept of illustration.

We can communicate to each other through drawing as well as reducing our stresses; it will also give us a sense of achievement. Drawing can keep our minds focused on the present and helps prevent us from ruminating in the past or the distant future. It is one of the most mighty mindfulness practices we can use.

Drawing can reduce anxiety and help develop our interpersonal and problem solving skills. It has a strong psychological impact on ourselves and get be used as a treatment therapy to potentially help mental disorders and give us a better understanding of our inner psyche.

I personally find it an outlet where I can express my emotions and feelings that I feel at the time when drawing.  Each individual can look at a picture and find they’re own unique meaning within the drawing. We interpret things differently to one another and this allows our individuality shine through. Releasing an intense emotion through a simple pencil let’s our sensations free and provides a release of our feelings each time we draw.

You don’t always need fancy equipment to create an effective drawing as long as you let your imagination flow and your emotions run free on the page, you can create a very powerful image.

Gavetips til Brudepar & Bryllup | Gavetips til forlover, venninner & brudepiker | The Wheatfield by Katie Daisy | Etsy Love

THE WHEATFIELD BY KATIE DAISY

For selv i vår digitale verden, blir vi fremdeles glad over at vakre ting finner veien til våre 'real life' postkasser. Hennes journal for 2014 er den perfekte venninnegave synes vi. Hvorfor ikke velge Katie sine vakre kort til den perfekte bryllupsgave.

'ABOUT KATIE' FRA HENNES WEBSIDE: Freelance illustrator Katie Daisy lives in a world where dreams and reality are the same. Her honey-laced hand lettering and spring-scented illustrations have been gaining notoriety since she burst onto the scene in 2009 when she graduated from renowned Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Since then, this farm-grown, Illinois-born wanderer has lived everywhere from the misty Cascades to the Great Smokies, sharing her passion for uplifting art with everyone she encounters.

Mixing watercolor and acrylic paint, Katie's palette shares its wildflower tones with a spring afternoon on the prairie. Whether illustrating inspiring quotes by great authors and humanitarians, or painting all things flora and fauna, her idyllic upbringing radiates through her work.

Hun har et print som heter Daydream List; som er helt nydelig. Det minner oss på i en travel hverdag og hastighetssamfunn at vi trenger å roe ned. Gode ting å overbringe til nygifte. Inspirere til å nyte, trekke dype åndedrag, og bare være;

“hello daydream: a clawfoot tub, a sunny yellow kitchen, a belly up kitty in the late sun, a painted wooden porch swing, slow dance in the backyard, a cheerful goldfinch song, fireflies in the grass, fireflies in the grass, banana bread and chamomile tea, a sleeping puppy, an old barn for a studio, the baby in a washtub, the prairie’s morning dew.”

Som hun selv sier: "All good things are wild & free."

Blast from the Past

Today I thought i'd reminisce on some past projects I created when I was 14- 16 years of age.
First up is my favourite that I made when I was 16, at this stage of my life I was addicted to the TLC show 'Toddlers and Tiaras', so naturally I decided to make a glitz pageant dress. Some may think its a tacky concept with bad values placed behind a glitzy dress, but for one I loved every minute sewing over the top sequin trims and curly frills!
The next dress was inspired by Australia's beautiful Great Barrier Reef. At the tender age of 16 I wanted to use colour, and lots of it! This dress in particular probably took the longest time to make, but at the time I thought it was worth it. By now you can probably tell my fashion sense is very over the top and full of colour!
when I was 14, there was a part of me that still secretly believed in faeries, so why not make a fairy dress for that off chance that they do exist! If barbie ever needed another fairy dress for her extensive wardrobe then this would be almost perfect for her!
Last but not least is my blue Cinderella like gown, that I wore once to a teen pageant and then a fashion design competition. I can still remember clearly quickly sewing on the sequins on both days of these events, minutes before I went on stage. Lets just say i'm probably not cut out for the hectic pageant lifestyle!
Anyways I hope you enjoy looking at my past sewing projects and got a little glimpse into my past.

Bondi Inspiration

So for the past couple of weeks i've been chilling out in Bondi and all this great summery weather we've recently had here, has inspired me to create a fun and oh so bright tropical print! I'm loving bright electric colours at the moment and since they're almost always on trend in the fashion worlds hotter months, I decided to go all out and put together something that will most probably stand out!
Photoshop is my intelligent best friend when it comes to creating prints. There are so many possibilities, and bucket loads of tools to design something outrageously different and fun!
If this great weather keeps up my summer inspiration will go into over drive and it's only spring here!

The print here has been mirrored and flipped to create a kaleidoscopic affect!!

Fabric Manipulations- Arabian Nights

Reflecting the brass plated architecture and the grainy texture of the desert sand, this texture combines modern day Arabic glamour and elegance with the traditional beading used on belly dancer costumes. This fabric contains a mixture of frayed chiffon, brass pearls, and metal seed beads.

Inspired by the radiant setting sun over the Middle East through is textural and boundless deserts, this fabric manipulation represents an Avant-garde approach towards the traditional Arabic embroided rugs. To create the richness and luxury feel of an Arabic rug in this fabric manipulation, I started off by dyeing an off white denim into a burnt orange colour. I then added eyelets throughout the surface. I then formed an abstract geometrical pattern on the fabric through threading the embroidery threads between multiple eyelets. To finish this manipulation off, an to add even more delicious textures on the fabric, I sewed metal seed beads in vertical lines, to generate a brassy affect.

The fabric on this texture was woven to replicate the Arabic cutout window panels used throughout the historical mosques and palaces. The fabric manipulation is backed on a sheer mesh to craft a light feel and look on the body.

The smocking manipulation was used to replicate the embossing technique used in Arabic furniture and architecture. The smocking was hand sewn in a woolen fabric to create a sculptural affect.
